EDGAR stands for Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval, and it is a public database and filling tool created by the SEC. It allows you to search for all fillings of the publicly traded companies under SEC supervision. It is a very helpful tool for KYC as the fillings are a regulatory requirement and therefore serve as a trustworthy source of KYC data. The fillings contain annual reports, shareholder information, information about controllers and many more. It is, however important to make sure the company still falls under SEC supervision and to ensure that the found documents are the latest.
