Basel AML Index

Basel AML Index is a yearly updated index published by the Basel Institute on Governance, providing information about jurisdictional AML risk. The index takes into consideration five domains: Quality of AML/CFT/CPF framework, Corruption and fraud risks, Financial transparency and standards, Public transparency and accountability and Political and legal risks.

While the index doesn’t cover all jurisdictions, the 2025 version covers 177 of them making, it a great tool to use for your AML country risk evaluation. The advantage of the Index is the fact that it takes into consideration several sources of AML risk, such as FATF, US State Department Reports, Transparency International report etc.

It should, however, not be taken as the only source of AML jurisdictional risk, especially in the EU, where the high-risk third countries list must also be considered.
